Pear tree – Taylor apple-pear

Zone 4 self-fertile: Discovered on the property of a friend and fellow apple enthusiast, it was among his two favourite varieties. It is now also among the top 3 of numerous friends who regularly taste the fruits or our orchards. Tosser is a round apple, green with an orangish-red cheek. It has a diameter of 8cm and weighs an average of 230g. It is crisp, juicy, has a Brix of 12, and an intense and sweet flavor! In our taste tests, it gets a rating of 4.5 to 4.8 out of 5. We harvest it between late September and mid-October. Hasn't been tested in colder area than zone 4 yet, would be worth trying in zone 3.

Zone 4 self-fertile: A small-medium pear, yellow-green in colour. The fruit is quite acidic and rough in texture, making it more suitable for use in jams and pastries. It is harvested in mid-September. A pretty tree with a pyramidic form with lovely fall colours.

Originates in the town of Stöde, in Sweden. A mystery pear from across the ocean. We cannot guarantee its cold hardiness as we have not yet done adequate testing.

Zone 4b: Discovered in St. Julienne, produces very good apples and is worth the effort of propagating more widely!

The MM106 rootstock is semi-dwarf, reaching 60% of the size of a standard apple tree.

The MM111 rootstock is semi-standard, reaching 80% of the size of a standard apple tree.

Zone 4 self-fertile: All-purpose black raspberries: good-sized, firm and excellent in taste. Suitable for fresh eating and freezing. Harvest is in mid-summer, in July. The canes are long, vigorous, spiny with strong suckering.

Zone 2: Very cold-hardy pear tree that produces large pears with soft and buttery flesh. Good for eating fresh or preserving.

Zone 3 self-fertile: This currant bush produces clusters of pink translucent berries, sweet and flavourful, excellent for fresh eating. It is one of the only fruit trees that grows well in semi-shade. Harvest takes place at the end of July.

Zone 3 self-fertile :Beautiful primarily ornamental shrub that also gives extremely aromatic fruit that can be processed to make delicious preserves and jellies.

Japanese quince is a low-spreading deciduous shrub originating from eastern Asia. It is valued primarily for its ornamental characteristics. It grows at a medium rate and can typically live around 40 years. The shrub exhibits a low and densely tangled-looking form with glossy dark green leaves and small thorns. Reasonable size expectations are about 3ft tall and a 4 ft spread. It produces stunning red flowers in late spring and vibrant yellow fruit that exude a captivating fragrance. Grows best in moist, well-drained soil and full sun but is not picky, persisting in most all soil and light conditions while showing a tolerance to air pollution.

Japanese quince fruit are not suitable for raw eating but make excellent preserves and jellies and can add a pleasant tangy, citrusy touch to dishes when grated on top. These spiky plants also make a great barrier and their spreading root system has potential in erosion control.

Zone 3: Spur type apple tree produces very attractive white apples of relatively large size. The fruit can be eaten green (reminiscent of Granny Smith at this stage) or fully ripe when the skin has turned white (much like Yellow Transparent). Firm, crisp texture.
