Zone 3 self-sterile: Known as one of the best pears grown in the Ural mountains in Russia. Bred by T. Clapp and Russian breeders in the mid 20th Century, it remains quite popular. A large pear, yellow-green with red covering half its surface, and a very good sweet taste with some acidity. It ripens early, in mid-August. It does not store well (a maximum of 14 days) so is best eaten fresh or cooked into preserves immediately. The tree is very cold-resistant. It takes 6-7 years to produce fruit.
