Apple tree – Davey
Zone 4 self-fertile – Discovered in 1928 by Stearns Lothrop Davenport, in North Grafton, Massachusetts. It is a ‘Mac-type’ apple tree, parented by an open pollinated McIntosh apple tree. The apple is bright red and of medium-large size, crunchy and juicy with a primarily sweet taste and little acidity. The skin is moderately thick. It is harvested in mid-late season, around late September, and it keeps well.
