Nut tree orchard
- Zone 4Characteristics of the tree
This package deal includes all the best quality nuts for our climate. When planted at an optimal distance (see the description for each of them) they will cover 1/3 of an acre. (1300 m² or 14 000 ft²)
Nut trees are quite rarely cultivated in Canada – which is a shame, as several species do grow well even in colder climates, and their nuts are a delight! Their size, and the difficulty of extracting them in comparison to their southern cousins, have hindered their commercial development in the past.
However, we sincerely believe that there is a real place in the market for northern Canadian nuts. The current growth of agritourism and interest in sourcing local and regional products are very encouraging for one with the intention to develop a local nut orchard!
Alongside this, there are also more mechanisms and technologies becoming available for extracting and processing these types of nuts on a commercial scale.
